Aunt Vickie holding Elyse - September 12, 2010.
I've held off sharing anything here because I've been in a bit of denial. My Aunt has lung cancer. She has started chemo, but now has pneumonia in her healthy lung. She has been hospitalized in Intensive Care for a week now. She is sedated and hasn't been awake since she was put on a breathing machine. At first, it was definitely scary, but there was a lot of HOPE. Now, we are officially SCARED. She has already lost a week and while at first it all seemed the right thing to help her breathe, now we are just praying things will get better.
Vickie has been a part of my life for so many years. She is loving, encouraging and a rock. Vickie knew I was pregnant before I told her. The day my Mom died I was literally hyperventilating when the van from the funeral home showed up to take Mom's body away. Vickie held onto me whispering loving words in my ear to calm my breathing. After losing my Mom, I cannot imagine our family without her. She is the woman who has held everything together. She has a large laugh, a cheerful heart and is always helping others. She has an incredibly strong faith and has faced her cancer diagnosis with strong optimism. She told me she will fight this.
I am begging for your prayers of healing. She can beat this and I have every hope she will. It is so hard seeing so many people I care about hurting. I think of her every moment. I pray she is growing stronger.
I believe in the power of prayer. If you don't know my Aunt, look at this picture and think of her, pray for her. Thank you!
