Baby: Week 26 - More Nursery Additions

Week 26: Baby is the size of an eggplant!

We haven't tried this yet, but I read that if Bill puts his ear to my belly, he might be able to pick up baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required). Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving Baby D a healthy pink glow. Our baby girl is also soaking up my antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming and our little one will soon perfect the blink - perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.

It's been a tough week. However, what better encouragement when things get rough than to have those sweet little kicks in my belly as a reminder. Baby Girl, I am so thankful for you already. You are such an encouragement and hope for me. Thank you for literally "kicking" me into reminding me what is really important.

I failed my first test for gestational diabetes (GD) (the one-hour glucose tolerance test). Statistics say 4% of pregnant women are diagnosed with GD. However, it seems like I know so many people who have had it. Not to mention the celebrities - Salma Hayek and even Angelina Jolie. One friend I talked to today said she had it with one pregnancy and not the other. And then her daughter was diagnosed during her pregnancy.

I am admittedly disappointed, but trying to not let it get me down. I go back on June 18 for a three-hour glucose test. If I do receive a final diagnosis of GD, I am thankful I was such a pro at the Atkins diet. I know how to eat low-carb and low-sugar! Admittedly, I just didn't want to have to worry about that right now! Now, pricking my finger to test my blood is another story. Oh well, time will tell.

As to a lighter topic, we have accumulated a few more things for the nursery. Again, I don't plan to do a full reveal until it is done. It is still pretty incomplete and barren in there now anyway - there's not much to see. But, I will continue to show you the additions as we gather them.

I've already said I'm not into themes. However, there is one that does seem to be cropping up. I can't help it if pink owls are so dang cute right now and fit the decor of the room. Here is a print I intend to frame.


And, then I found this guy on Etsy. Check out this gal's shop - her creations are adorable!


Marcie and I saw these curtains in a picture of paint samples and fell in love. Can't wait for them to be hung.


I was struggling to get the third color of "orange" into the room and this overhead light fit the ticket. We need to adjust the cording, but at least it is hung!


The crib is put together. A tough day at work today was lightened when I walked in Baby's room and Bill had put it together. I quickly went to work and whipped up this crib skirt. Might sound crazy after coming home late on a Friday evening, but honestly - sewing can be so therapeutic. And, doing something for my little one gives me joy. Not to mention, I was quite proud of myself with the finished product.


Here's a closer look at that super cute Amy Butler fabric. Yes, that is the fabric from the quilt Evelyn is making. The skirt is not only cute, but functional. We can hide things under the crib like storage bins!


The great thing about this skirt is it is secured with velcro. When Baby D gets bigger and we lower the mattress, we can just adjust the skirting. The skirt was very easy, no gathering, just straight fabric. I did sew it, but you could easily use iron-on hem tape. Very easy project!


That's about it for now. Have I mentioned, I'm now in the third trimester? Yikes, time flies when you're growing a baby! Until next time...
